Manhole covers already carry a sort of double life. Utilitarian, municipal, beneath notice and yet stamped with a foundry's mark, a city's initials, a small signature hidden in plain sight. This piece borrows that same logic: concealment as a survival skill, legibility reserved only for those who already know the code.
To walk over it without noticing is to repeat, unknowingly, the condition the work describes a history that had to hide in order to exist, written into the ground itself. To notice it, to crouch down and trace the symbol with a finger, is to be let in on something the street has been holding all along.
*Project will be expanded with a series of manhole covers
